Jake Mitrecic knows that running a successful town government means working as a team, truly listening to our citizens, and the ability to look at challenges from a unique and informed perspective. Who Is Jake Mitrecic?
Jake is a lifelong resident of Ocean City who has taken the initiative to file for the City Council race. Jake lives in Montego Bay with his fiance Melissa and their two dogs, Bronson and Bailey. Jake graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 2009 and subsequently attended the Ivan Allen School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech before returning to Ocean City and entering the workforce. Jake has been an employee of the town's recreation department, a service industry member, and is currently a member of the team at Mitrecic Builders; a successful multi-generational general contracting company with an extensive residential and commercial portfolio. Jake has previously served the town on the Port Wardens Board, and currently serves both the town and Worcester county on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Jake's passion for policy and desire to seek leadership roles began in his early life, where he supported his father's successful runs for both City Council and County Commissioner. With your support, Jake Mitrecic will be able to bring his unique perspective, love for our town, and passion for helping others to our City Council.
Where does Jake Stand on Big Issues?
Offshore Wind
Jake is firmly against offshore wind projects. In addition to the pollution of our sightlines, failures in offshore wind create environmental and financial disasters for coastal towns. Jake will be a soldier in the continued fight to repeal and prevent offshore wind projects.
Mobile Home Insurance
As a resident of Montego Bay, Jake has been disheartened to see friends and neighbors lose access to homeowner's insurance. Jake pledges to use his position as a councilman to influence legislation that will force insurance companies to do the right thing and protect our citizens investments.
Public Safety Staffing Issues
In order to maintain a safe, family friendly, and economically strong town, we must employ a world-class public safety team. Fire, EMS, and Police must not be short-staffed in our busy summer months or the more quiet shoulder seasons. Jake believes that in order to build and maintain an allied team of public safety professionals, we need to offer competitive compensation and benefits, which will ultimately drive down overtime costs and keep our town safe and secure.
Short-Term Rental Regulations
Without regulatory oversight from the town, short term rentals can alter the fabric of neighborhoods and leave little recourse for our local community. Jake is open to all solutions, but believes the occupancy changes suggested by the Planning Commission are a good common-sense place to start. In addition Jake would like to see an on-sight manager assigned to these properties in an effort to curtail absentee landlords.
